  •                                        1H-Benzotriazolium, 1-[bis(dimethylamino)methylene]-, 3-oxide, tetrafluoroborate(1-) (1:1), commonly known as HBTU, is an important reagent in the field of peptide synthesis. It is frequently used as a coupling reagent for the formation of amide bonds, particularly in the synthesis of peptide chains where it facilitates the bonding between amino acid units.
    
    During peptide synthesis, HBTU activates the carboxyl group of one amino acid to make it more reactive towards the amine group of another amino acid.
